I can see why people don't like Alamedans

Alamedans aren't very friendly to not only outsiders but people with outside ideas. I mean, look at this board for instance. You guys have one guy who has an opinion that you may or may not like troll your board. Now every loudmouth member of this board wants to show who they know in your town (as if it's some sort of "friends" list on myspace and the bigger the list, the more "leet" you are).
Ok let me play your game then. You know who I love? I love the bluecollar family of 5 that was kicked out of their apartment because they were labeled "ghetto" (aka..black). I love my neighbor on Haight ave who had her husband beat on her and the quick responsive Alameda police never showed up (I should know, I called them more than 4 times. I guess if your house is on the West side, you just aren't taken seriously). I love the kids that go to Longfellow. You see, in the town I come from (where people genuinely care about each other instead of well...frontin like they do) the money given to the school district is divided evenly so that every school has equal facilities, books and caliber of teahcers but in YOUR town, it's all in where you live. I've seen the differences all over Alameda.

Oh and moderator, I know my opinion is different so I might suggest running rigorous test to weed out people who don't you know think the way most Alamedans think. You run your tests and people like me won't be able to post on such an elite board.

Big ups to the West side! Adding to the list of things we like about the West End, I think I like the new Fireside. It still has some bugs to work out, but the beer list is awesome! (Talk about dedicating your life to something worthwhile - how about committing to trying every beer on the list)

There is a difference in acceptance of outside ideas and tolerating cunts, assholes, and jerks. I do think ideas other than my own are valid; what is not valid is someone going out of their way to be super mega dick. I don't like name calling. I don't like to be surrounded by such bile. People who act in such a way for no reason at all are trolls and should be squashed. Their intention is not to open dialog and debate, but to create a hostile environment. I applaud the moderator for getting this guy account removed. (if that's what happened)

actually, I pointed out to TOU Guy that there was someone trolling in order to rile up a group of people (for what purpose, *I* don't know). Since it was clear that the profile was only being used to stir up shit, the profile was removed.

You live in Alameda? Then its YOUR city, too. True, we're not a utopian society. But we're lucky enough that if there is something we don't like, we have an opportunity to make positive change.

What are the details of the family of 5 getting evicted? I haven't heard about that but am interested in the circumstances.

I am trying to understand why you think everyone in alameda, and on this board, are yuppy assholes.

We moved out of SF 10 years ago because we couldn't afford the rent there anymore and the building was turned into condos. We should have bought a house here then, but didn't. Now there is no way in hell we could afford a house here. We rent....yes, rent...and thankfully we have a great landlord that lives next door and hasn't raised the price much. (wait! shocker! I actually know my landlord and care about her!)

I drive a '99 chevy prism with paint peeling off and two major dents that I don't have the money fix.

You might have seen that list of people we like as being a "leet" thing... but, if you notice, most of those people happened to be small business owners. So we like to try and support small business on the island. I don't understand how that is a problem.

Alameda has its problems just like any town. Yes, there is a yuppy attitude taking over. Yes, people are having to move out because of costs. Yes, there are good...and bad cops here.

That still doesn't mean that everyone in the town and on here is part of that.

If you want to bitch about things, fine, please do so.... but don't lump everyone except you into one category. You have never even met me.

    so blow me

...and slap a gold star on your forehead because you got me annoyed enough to post a response to you.

[Didn't the original troll state he didn't live in Alameda? I got the impression that he was an Oaklander who visited regularly coming thru the Tube, hence his hatred of Webster Walkers.

This new troll sounds just like the old one. same person, different profile, maybe?]

In any case, I never cease to be amazed at people who travel to a different hometown and then start demanding that everyone and everything change for THEM. Why not just stay where you were?

Alameda is like Mayberry on steroids. It's a small RESIDENTIAL community. If you want happening stuff, go to Oakland, Berkeley or SF. People come here to get away from that noise.

It's also mostly single FAMILY home OWNERS. Yes there are apts. here, but such folk are numerically not the majority. Consequently policies and infrastructure will be skewed towards people who pay the city taxes and don't want sprawl.

Again this isn't SF or Berkeley. I am sorry if you got priced out of those communities, but Alameda is not going to change much because it's an ISLAND. There is no more land to build on, especially those crappy pseudo-lofty high rise apts. so beloved by SF'ers. Thankfully our zoning laws protect us from the tear it down and build it big profiteers that have ruined other neighborhoods.

I really don't understand people who complain about Alameda. It's not like you get to it accidentally. Complaining about traffic on the freeways or even in a sprawling city like Oakland makes sense, but if you don't like Alameda, it's EASY to stay off the island!

Perhaps we can arrange to schedule a time with “The Voice of Alameda” at a local venue to have coffee/beer to have a civil face to face conversation about the ills of Alameda & how best to remedy some of these issues.

…Or is VOA just another cowardly & pathetic troll with no life, too much time & a desire to flaccidly provoke others void of any sincere motive towards constructive criticism?

That's putting WaaaaaaAAAaaayy too much effort into something like this. :)

Go ahead and dislike Alameda. Less people to get in my way at Target.

really, just ignore him and this thread will drop down out of existence.

he will go back to crying himself to sleep and hating some other city.

too bad you had a bad experience w/ alameda cops. every time we or our neighbors have called (on the west side ) they have been very prompt and very helpful. I get a huge charge out of reading the police blotter in the paper here about various low-lifes who are driving around here in the middle of the night with a missing license plate or headlight and then it turns out they have a warrant out, no license and a crack pipe. What do they expect? Get 'em off the island and out of the gene pool, I say. As an old hippie and a burner, never thought I'd be pro-cop, but they seem to be like lawyers-- nobody likes them until they need one.
