Once an apartment manager finally says YES, I will be moving soon.
I have friends who are willing to help, but I figure that instead of worrying about their backs and their schedules and who can rent me a truck because I don't have a car and therefore no insurance and blahblahblah, it'd be easier (and not much more expensive, because I'll be obligated to feed my friends!) to just hire movers. Then I can see my friends at a nice housewarming party, where everyone is happy and calm instead of sweaty and under duress.
Has anyone moved within the island? How much stuff did you move, how much did it cost you, would you recommend the moving company you used?

Re: Has anyone used movers to move from Alameda place to Alameda place?
Wed, March 19, 2008 - 11:12 PMwe used a company based here to move some of our stuff when we moved from palo alto to here, they also kept the stuff on the truck for us for about a week.
the company was Chipman moving & storage on Buena Vista
I don't remember how much it cost, but I don't remember them being too expensive.

Re: Has anyone used movers to move from Alameda place to Alameda place?
Wed, April 2, 2008 - 2:35 PMMost movers have a minimum charge of about 4 hours - unless you've got *lots* of stuff to move, you'll probably just end up paying the minimum. Figure you'll be spending on the order of $300.
I had good luck with TomCat movers, moving within Oakland, and later from Oakland to Alameda (20 minute drive) though the rates and minima they quote on Craigslist change from day to day. Deborah found another mover - I can get you the name soon. -

Re: Has anyone used movers to move from Alameda place to Alameda place?
Fri, April 4, 2008 - 4:16 PMWe actually are using TomCat. Prodigy gave the best quote ($85 per hour, 3 hour minimum) but were booked this weekend, TomCat is $90/hr, but they were available on Saturday. I'm expecting to pay the minimum, yeah, it's mostly boxes corralled in one room, not much furniture.
