Re: Alameda Point Discussed Civilly on KitchenDemocracy.org
Wed, December 26, 2007 - 6:58 PMI thought that was a done deal. A developer already won the bid. Didn't the city already dictate zoning?

Re: Alameda Point Discussed Civilly on KitchenDemocracy.org
Thu, December 27, 2007 - 11:07 AMi lived on the base 8+ years ago and this discussion was going on way b/4 that.
Also when I lived there they told us who lived in some of houses that we would have the opportunity to buy the house. I would have totally purchased the house I lived in. As it was the only two story ranch house on essex, it didnt happen.
Then they told us that with in 6mths of recipt of some letter that we would need to move and that they were turning the base into million dollar homes and a golf course, hmmm didnt happen either. The letter also mentioned that the big whites would be the only houses that would stay on the base and we would be given the opportunity to purchase these as well....and I would have jumped to buy one of those as well.
We also received a letter with a deveopment map stating which houses were to stay which ones were to go etc..where the golf course was going to be and the size of the lots for the new houses and we were given the oppotunity to buy a new house as well, this didnt happen either....
At the navy base flea market I met a gentlemen in the coffee line who was actually a developer who put a proposal together for the city and they accepted it (8 y/o mind you) and then they told him to "hold" as there was some "issues" with the water/ground being toxic, that the city needed to get the land ok'ed and make sure that it wasnt bad....
Then the toxic ground/water letters started rolling in like crazy, and thats when the "hold" on any developments happened. I would say that was roughly 6 years ago. And to this day I really think thats what the hold up is. Think about it, its prime property, something should have happened by now. I could be mistaken....but this discussion has been around a long time.
