Park Street Auto Row in Transition
Good ChevroletThe commercial district on Park Street north of Lincoln Avenue, traditionally known as "Auto Row," is an area in transition. In response to the changes taking place in this area, the Community Improvement Commission of the City of Alameda (CIC) authorized the preparation of the North of Lincoln Strategic Plan earlier this year.
"Auto dealerships have been an important part of our community for over 60 years," said Mayor Beverly Johnson. "Now dealerships require larger lots closer to freeways and in expansive auto malls. This Strategic Plan will help us to envision a new direction for the District that fulfills the needs and aspirations of new and future residents and businesses."
The public hearings are the final component of the community engagement process for the Strategic Plan, which included individual meetings with community stakeholders, a March 15th Visioning Workshop, a three-day public design studio, and the April 17th Public Open House.
Comments expressed during the community engagement process have been incorporated into the draft Strategic Plan. Final consideration and approval of the Strategic Plan by the CIC is expected later this fall.
