Looking beyond the well represented cuisines of Chinese and Mexican on the island...

Any opinions?

I'm not sure about Vietnamese, but there's only one Indian place on the Island and it seems to cater more towards American tastes...I found the food there very bland, even though I asked for spicy. I'd rather go into Oakland or Berkeley for decent Indian fare.

I love the PHO Vietnamese restaurant located on Park. St. across the street and down a ways from Scott's Shoes. It is just up from Hob Nob. Nice food, big portions, very reasonable prices (and goofy music selections).

I really like Dragon Rouge at Oak and Encinal. Dunno if it's the best, because I haven't been to any other (still open) Vietnamese places on the island.

There's a too-popular Indian place on 8th around Santa Clara, and I'm not going back because the service was intolerable. Last time I went, we waited 15 minutes without being acknowledged by their staff.

That's India Palace. I just went there the other day..I had a serious craving for tandoori chicken but didn't feel like leaving the island. I must admit, the food was much better than I remembered. Don't know about the service though since I got food to go.

I have vague memories of really good food, but if I'd ordered takeout the last time I went, it would have been cold by the time someone got around to helping me.

next time call ahead...the food was still piping hot when I got it home. Unfortunately, India Palace is the only option for Indian on the island, so if you're craving Indian food, your best bet is to call ahead and get it to go. The food is pretty darned good

      That's Burma Superstar.

Vietnamese: Cafe Le on Webster (used to be called "The Trans Restaurant" -Same owners, new look!)

India Palace is prob the best Indian food I've tasted in the US.

I've never had those garlic noodles, but a co-worker of mine really loves them which made it terrible working in close confines cause she always stank to high heaven after eating that stuff. I'm glad we work in different departments now.
