    <summary type="html">Unfortunately, D&amp;amp;E has closed up shop and moved to Atascadero.  If you call their old number, you'll get the outfit that bought their back catalog of existing customers.  Apparently a fairly solid shop, but in Oakland, not Alameda.</summary>

    <summary type="html">I don't know if he'll fix windows, but Emo Schuitema at Emo's Automotive Repair &amp;amp; Machine Shop at 1912 Everett Street did a great job replacing my engine and replaced a heater motor assembly for me. &#xD;

Then he did nearly 500 dollars of work for us to sponsor our rally.  Great people, fantastic service. They're the kind of people that won't do a job unless they know they can do it well.&#xD;

    <summary type="html">For problems with automotive locks (ignition, door locks etc) DE Lock and Key on Central is a great alternative to the dealer.   Dealers charge a fortune and take a long time, especially for keys that require programming.  He just resuscitated my  key (which has a chip and a remote in it) for  $80 compared to $700 at the dealer, I'm not kidding.  (For $700 I expect a diamond encrusted platinum masterpiece!)</summary>

    <summary type="html">Someone on this list recommended Royal Auto on Lincoln Avenue a few years ago, and I've been taking my car there ever since. They do an awesome job and always tell me exactly what's going on. They try to get the lowest price for parts without getting crappy parts. They even show me the parts they had to replace and go over why. Very good guys there!</summary>

Alameda Foreign auto also does domestic.  Dave (the owner) drives a Ford or something with a Ford engine.  and he fixed my Partner's Oldmobile for a very good price.  He even picked me up from school to make sure that I could get to my car.&#xD;

    <summary type="html">Lew Whitmore is a great guy, good mechanic.  I think Steve is his son-in-law.  He's been in Alameda forever.&#xD;

Another good one is Alameda Foreign Auto Service on Park.  They had some bad mechanics in there for awhile, but the owner finally cleaned them out.&#xD;

    <summary type="html">I second Fred's.  Yes, pricey -- but they did EVERYTHING necessary, and other 'easy' things to do while the engine was pulled apart, so it came out to be kinda cheap overall.  Even better: Fred worked with us on payment plans and such, I was amazed.  &#xD;

Fred's Wrenchhouse does really really really good work.  Really really.  I'd recommend his stuff for anything involved and Cliff Madeira Chevron for general basic stuff.  Good shops.</summary>

    <summary type="html">There's a place in Berkeley everyone seems to love. look under listings for mechanic. I went there, but they're foreign only. they recommended Fred's Wrenchouse for my Ford. 647 Buena Vista Ave Alameda (510) 521-7215.&#xD;

Good: They seemed honest and reliable. They did what they promised, they finished when they said they would be, and I didn't feel like they were pulling a fast one.&#xD;
&#xD;
Not as good: They're kinda spendy. Though, the scam artists always turn out to be more expensive in the long run.</summary>

    <summary type="html">I 2nd the recommendation for Alameda Foreign Auto on Park Street.  Dave Boyden is SOOO honest, friendly, (yes, a bit chatty but I like that!), and down-to-earth.  He treats his customers with respect and won't try to sell you any part or service that you truly don't need.  He's the best mechnaic I've ever been to in the Bay Area!  Good luck....</summary>

    <summary type="html">Great mechanic:  Alameda Foreign Auto.  They are on Park  next to McGee's.  Talk to Dave - he's the owner.  LOVES to talk, but he's honest and won't sell you crap you don't need.  He's been my mechanic since 1998 - keeps my '91 Honda in good shape.  He says he can get 300k out of it, and I am starting to believe him.&#xD;

$90 Vs other places ranging as high as $280&#xD;

also when my lock got popped they replaced it for next to nothing when I supplied the lock. other places wanted $100-$200&#xD;
