Now I know some of you's weren't very welcoming to Target being built at southshore. Fine, but replacing Mervyn's with Kohls?!?!?
That is like replacing crap with shit.
From my insider sources though, once a few other stores agree to build on, Target will join up with those stores and build on the base (you guys don't have to worry, it's not on your retard, elitist part of Alameda).
Here's the rule though. I say, all of you people who didn't want target there aren't allowed to use city streets to get there. You guys are going to clog up the traffic for people who genuinely want and NEED to go to Target.
Go to pagano's and buy your stupid flower patterened hammers and stfu.

Frank, please stop with the generalizations. It's seriously not helping your case one iota.
I'm all for Target.
I even made up a haiku about Target:
Get out of our way
We're going to Tar-get
To buy stupid shit

Thu, January 31, 2008 - 6:45 PMWal Mart could take up the whole island.
Did you see that article in the SF Sunday mag about Adam whatshis name who used to run the Sierra Club doing consulting for Wal Mart? Super interesting. Ecologists conundrum. Makes me slightly less queasy about the retail giant.
I would TOTALLY go for a Costco on the island. Cosco is fucking rad as a retail experience.

Fri, February 1, 2008 - 8:19 AMI really like this, perhaps we should reply in haiku to all of this troll's posts?
Alameda says
Sorry about your childhood
Someone needs a hug?
(works best if you say it in a silly cartoon voice) -

Re: Alameda logic at work: Target
Sat, February 2, 2008 - 12:04 AMPagano's is great. Their kitchen section is better than a lot of actual kitchen stores, and MUCH cheaper, and they seem to have a smaller percentage of Made in China than most stores.
I love those Cheerlite candles they sell. They're expensive, but they're not Made in China and they don't smoke up the room.
Y'know what else is great in Alameda? The Trader Joe's. I love how they play up that they're "The Only Trader Joe's on an Island." -

Re: Alameda logic at work: Target
Tue, February 5, 2008 - 8:50 AMI could dig a Target on the base--I actually like Target for kids' clothes, they're certainly more age-appropriate for my 10 yo daughter than most of what we find at Mervyns* and occasionally I find something for myself. My mom and I, when summing up our days, often say "Then I did ____, then I went to _____, then I wasted 20 minutes at Mervyn's" because we don't find much worth the price there.
I was totally PRO having Target in the mall, you can check my previous posts on this community. I do public transit most of the time, and it takes nearly an hour to get to the one in El Cerrito, and the (closer as the crow flies or the car drives) ones in Albany and at Bayfair in San Leandro are actually a lot more difficult to get to by transit.
*I'm glad that tunics are in--those bare-midriff tops a few years back were incredibly sleazy looking, especially on pre-adolescents!
