Re: people we love in alameda
Wed, January 23, 2008 - 11:52 PMThe lady at Johnathan's sandwich shop, who remembers everyones favorite sandwich.
The dude who stands on the corner of Santa Clara and Park, with a cane and long hair.
Duke walking up and down Park St. in his suit and hat. Actually, haven't seen him around lately.

Re: people we love in alameda
Thu, January 24, 2008 - 1:53 AMAida Merriweather, the children's librarian who has recommended some of the best books my daughter and I have read in the last 7 years!
Al, the host at Jim's Coffee Shop, who starts writing down my name and "Party of 3" when I walk in the door, and who has actually come and found us in Goodwill when we knew the wait was going to be long!
I cannot remember her name, but there's an incredibly sweet clerk who works at the Long's on Santa Clara -- youngish, short dark bob, always smiling. I run into her on the bus sometimes.
Kate Pryor of Tucker's Supercreamed Ice Cream

Re: people we love in alameda
Thu, January 24, 2008 - 8:43 AMI agree about Kate Pryor of Tucker's Ice Cream being one of the best parts of Alameda culture. Scott of Scott's Shoe's is also a big part of this environment for me. I buy LOTS of shoe's there and always love them...I consider high-quality shoe's to be part of my health-care budget. The whole staff at Trader Joe's is consistantly bright and cheery, but especially this one great women with a little Dorothy Hamill style haircut. I don't know her name but she is a huge charmer and part of the high morale there.
VIVA Alameda! -

Re: people we love in alameda
Thu, January 24, 2008 - 9:48 AMAgreed on TJs, I've never been checked out by anyone surly, even normal "long day not so cheery" surly. There is a light-skinned black lady there with a somewhat high-pitched voice who is REALLY GREAT with kids, and always seems just thrilled to be alive.

Re: people we love in alameda
Thu, January 24, 2008 - 9:03 AMI love the guy who walks his two kids to school down Walnut in the mornings with puppy along for the ride.
They walk to school at the same time we are leaving for work. We saw one of the first times they took the fluffy wiggly puppy with them and have watched it grow up. The dog is always prancy and happy and pulling at the leash and tugging on the kids' backpacks.
It always makes us happy.

I also remember Kevin, who I think moved on to another job. The kids loved him, but he had this wonderful sarcasm that was aimed at the adults. It went over the kids' heads, but was never mean or at their expense.
