Motorcyclist killed on I-880 in San Leandro during rush hour commute

SAN LEANDRO — A motorcyclist was killed after losing control while splitting lanes on southbound Interstate 880 this morning, authorities said.

The victim, a 45-year-old Alameda man, was not being named until his next of kin are notified.

The two left lanes of southbound I-880 were closed north of Davis Street from 7:30 to 9:15 a.m., backing up traffic and causing 40-minute delays. A Sig-alert was issued and big rigs were diverted to I-580.

At 7:27 a.m., traffic was moving about 40 to 50 miles per hour when the motorcyclist — traveling about 70 to 85 miles per hour on a blue BMW motorcycle — drove between the two fast lanes north of the Davis Street exit, California Highway Patrol Officer Cristina Tagle said.

He apparently clipped a white 24-foot box truck in the No. 2 lane and then struck a black Volvo in the No. 1 lane, Tagle said.

He lost control, may have been thrown from his motorcycle, and later was pronounced dead at the scene. He didn't appear to be run over, Tagle said.

The truck, the Volvo and a witness stopped and assisted with the investigation.

Assult by manager 7-11 Park St Bridge

Do you stop @ 7-11 just off the island for your cigs or beer?
Ever been overcharged?

I have, and more than once.
I had 'Buy 2 get 1 free' cig specials cost $12
(when the single price was 4 and some change)

This time my friend Dylan got overcharged, asked for his dollar back
which led to excuses like " it's CRV and tax" that made a 7.99 sixpack cost more than $10...
The receipt showed the cost as 8.99, the shelf said 7.99 for all beers on that shelf.
Then it was claimed to have been mis-stocked.
However, it wasn't their fault, and the price is really 8.99.
Sorry, come again!

He stuck in, and got his dollar back,
but on the way out Steve the manager shouted at him to fuck off.
I started the camera, and asked if he would repeat it for the record...

It led to Steve the manager attempting to incite a fight before spitting in my face and drawing back to punch me!

my friend had been working for a high end salon for many years in the city (previously in NY for 2 years) and then moved to the walnut creek salon...and was not able to keep her SF clients and decided to move closer home.

LUCKY ME!!! --US!!!

I haven't had a haircut/trim or professional color since before xmas and had an of unruly tangled mess of a mane that NEEDED a professional.

Buzzed by a copter tonight

Twice tonight our place - near 9th and santa clara - was buzzed by a HUGE military copter. It shook our one floor cottage so badly we thought it was going to crash. Our neighbors came out to see what it was too.

at about 6:00 pm it was headed towards Oaktown. By 9:00 pm it headed back the other way.

Anyone else feel it?

Good lord. it just went by again - 9:30? what is up?

chair rental, set up and take down

it's been closed for a couple of months, the sign on the door says closed until further notice for "Maintenance Cleaning".

nothing has happened on the inside, place settings are on the tables just as always, the light's on in the kitchen and out side.

I miss it, Tillies has been our default eating place since moving to Alameda.

Alameda toyota successor already out of business.

For a month before closing, the repair guys at Alameda Toyota reminded me they were moving ( and changing name) to Oakport st. in Oakland (near IN_N_OUT).

Yesterday I drove by and found all the cars gone - a ghost town. Apparently their credit dried up. One wonders what may have been if they had just stayed put ( and small) in Alameda.

New Toyota dealership in Oakland closes

The recently opened Superior Toyota of Oakland hoped to be a rare example of an auto dealership that could swim against the harsh economic tide.

On Tuesday, employees were informed the 200,000-square-foot dealership at 8181 Oakport St. at Hegenberger Road would be shut down at the close of business Tuesday. It came as a surprise as the grand opening of the site was to be scheduled soon, and cars were being placed in the window fronting Interstate 880 this week.

Even a huge sign near Oracle Arena declared the site "now open."

While it's a Toyota dealership, owner Michael Kahn said Nissan actually provided the financing for the new building.

"In turn, with things getting very poor with the economy, they pulled out of the deal," he said. "I was left holding the bag with no financing.

"So we made the decision (to close) yesterday," he said. "I can't buy any more cars. Can't sell anything. The cars are still on the lot, but Nissan owns them now."

The dealership, which also sells Scion, is part of the Superior Auto Group, which closed all its locations. Superior Nissan of Fremont also shut down effective Tuesday. The others are in Southern California.

"We just set up," said Kahn, who has been in the car business for 30 years and owns other dealerships around the state. "We got in here in December when we moved over from Alameda, before the building was done. We officially opened up this week. We just finished all the

construction, the lights went on, the signs went up. Our (sales) numbers immediately went up. And now this."

The closure includes not only the sales department but also the large service department at the site, Kahn said. About 100 employees will be affected, he said.

"I'm kind of in a state of shock because we thought we had such a bright and opportunistic future here, and with this, it just leaves an empty taste," said Akie Alifragis, customer relations manager of Superior Toyota of Oakland. "When we were told (Tuesday morning), some of our employees broke down."

During a tour last week, Alifragis was confident the more than 40 service bays, having all services and facilities under one roof, and as many as 1,200 cars on the lot at a time would lead the dealership to success. But in the end, it wasn't enough to shake the economy, he said.

Vehicle miles traveled last year fell by 107.9 billion, or 3.6 percent, the Federal Highway Administration said in a report last week. More than 880 dealers have closed across the country, with most coming in the fourth quarter, according to the Detroit-based consultant Urban Science.

"I think the economy has taken such a turn that there's some things you can't do anything about regardless of how hard you try," Alifragis said. "It's just a really tough time right now."

Oakland City Councilmember Larry Reid (Elmhurst-East Oakland), a supporter of the dealership project moving to his district, was greatly dismayed at the loss to the city.

"We'll have this big, empty building there," he said. "Mike's dealership was the largest Toyota dealership in Northern California. He spent $36 million building this new facility. The sales have been going up, so this is a big loss."

For customers who have bought new cars at the dealership, their cars are under warranty, and any other Toyota dealership can take care of maintenance issues.

The completion of the dealership was part of Oakland's redevelopment plan and was to create momentum for the "Coliseum Auto Mile," which includes Coliseum Lexus of Oakland and Infiniti of Oakland.

It was also to create "a significant source of sales tax revenue for the city," according to a publication released by the Community and Economic Development Agency of Oakland.

The deal itself was completely privately funded.

The building will remain intact for the time being, but if it is converted to office use, it would add 200,000 square feet to the Oakland Airport market that has a vacancy rate at about 21 percent, according to a recent fourth quarter by CB Richard Ellis.

Great 1 bdrm. apartment near Central/Park coming up for rent!

I'm leaving a wonderful (athough small) 1 bdrm. apartment conveniently close to Park Street in a month. It's in a 1920's style house w/five apartments with lots of detail and although the bedroom is super tiny the layout of the place makes it feel spacious. I have loved living here and it really truly has a special vibe. It's currently $1000/month but I would bargain with them to lower it. I got in at $900/month 6 years ago.

It has great light, allows small pets, has parking, is super safe, has great great neighbors, is quiet, is clean and the landlords, Gallagher and Lindsey have been overall OK. Really just fine in fact. I don't give them a hassle and they have not pissed me off...even though they at times sent warnings about useless things like having a problem that somebody parked a trailer in the parking lot or too many cars were parked on the side of the house, they NEVER followed through because no one reacted. We did nothing and they just forgot about it after awhile. Anyway, it's a great place and I'm passing it along to Tribe peeps first!

APT cable sell out to Comcast

Is anyone else bothered by the sell out of APT cable and network services to Comcast.

Alameda was one of the few places where you had choice in cable providers, and now comcast swallows up yet another local operation and reduces the amount of choice available.

I'd go with Dish and a DSL line, but it looks like DSL is not well supported in Alameda.

Pumpkin thrown through window at San Jose/Oak

Just shy of 9pm, we heard loud smashing glass outside. My husband grabbed his maglite and ran out the door but it was already over with, it happened that quickly. Other neighbors had also run out to see what the commotion was.

Apparently a pumpkin had been thrown through the window of the house across the street from us, and another pumpkin was thrown towards our house and smashed just shy of our neighbor's jeep. The owner of the house with the smashed in window - a woman and her young son - were standing outside, bewildered. She said nobody got hurt, nobody was in the room at the time. They were just shaken up pretty badly. There was a young couple who were walking past our place at the moment the incident happened - they are the ones, along with a male neighbor a couple doors down from us, who saw the kids. The male neighbor jumped in his truck and tried to go after the kids, who scattered in all directions on foot.

The perpetrators, according to the young couple out for a walk, were two white kids, one black kid, probably around age 16. One was wearing a dark hoodie over a white hoodie. That's all we have to go on.

There were two more pumpkins in the street, near the curb of the house that had its window smashed in. It's not known what their motive was or how much more they thought to get away with. The young boy who lives at the violated house did not see the perpetrators either, and his mom doesn't think her son was targeted, although it was the boy's bedroom window that was shattered, and he was just about to go into his room to go to bed. Poor kid.

The police were called out and took statements from the walking couple, from my husband, and when the man in the truck returned, they talked to him, too.

People are so mean. I hope those kids get caught quickly.

Alameda Haunted Backyard tonight!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

Despite the threat of rain, we're going to try to go through with the haunted backyard tonight for Halloween.

Last year we had as many as 14 confirmed criers, and some people (adults as well as children) literally fled from our backyard, they were so scared.

The action usually begins at dusk (around 6:30pm so says aa.usno.navy.mil).
A good time to stop by to wander into the backyard of do0m would likely be between 7pm - 9pm when we are in full swing.

May the rain abate to give us more than an hour of scares!

Gluten free Alamedans?

This is kind of a shot in the dark, but here goes. Safeway at the South Shore Mall, or whatever its called now, has gluten free breads and other products. Its in a freezer at the back of the bakery near the creamers. They have a whole range of Kinnikinnick products back there hidden away, with no advertising and a very hard to spot sign. Because of this, they aren't selling well. I seem to be the only one. Buy Gluten Free goodies so they will keep carrying them! Tell your Gluten Free friends!

"Auto dealerships have been an important part of our community for over 60 years," said Mayor Beverly Johnson. "Now dealerships require larger lots closer to freeways and in expansive auto malls. This Strategic Plan will help us to envision a new direction for the District that fulfills the needs and aspirations of new and future residents and businesses."

The public hearings are the final component of the community engagement process for the Strategic Plan, which included individual meetings with community stakeholders, a March 15th Visioning Workshop, a three-day public design studio, and the April 17th Public Open House.

Comments expressed during the community engagement process have been incorporated into the draft Strategic Plan. Final consideration and approval of the Strategic Plan by the CIC is expected later this fall.

FREE Impressionists' Picnic at Lincoln Park this Saturday

PEERS will be having its annual August picnic this coming Saturday, August 2nd, at Lincoln Park in Alameda (near the Rose Garden, on the High Street side of the Park.) This year, it's <a href="http://www.peers.org/picnic.html">The Impressionists' Picnic</a>.

Picnic luncheon begins at 11:30, (you may come earlier to save a spot) and Bangers and Mash, a will be playing for dancers from 1:30 to 4:30.

Bring your own picnic lunch.

Victorian and/or artistic finery (but not TOO fine, it's a picnic!) is admired but not required.

Wear sturdy shoes in which you can dance outdoors. (The ground can be soft, so heels are to be avoided, and the "dance floor" is a path, so shoe yourself accordingly!)

The event is free, but donations for the band are graciously accepted.

Paint and easels are also admired but not required. I know of at least two artists who are planning to paint this charming scene.

Last year's Jane Austen Picnic was delightful , this one should be as well.

Theater Propaganda

Went and saw WALL-E at the Alameda Theater last night and was forced to watch a 15 minute propaganda reel. Actually it was two. One was the usual "Welcome to the new restored Alameda Theater please turn off you cell phone, no texting be quiet etc". which I didn't mind. but what followed was ARGH. It some ways it was suppose to be a history lesson, which is kind of cool, but it made it sound like (which they repeated over and over and OVER again) that unless we accept the monolith that is the megaplex the theater would have been torn down. I was getting so annoyed that I nearly walked out of the theater and demanded my money back. If it wasn't WALL-E and just some random movie (which I haven't done in a long time, being tickets at $9.50 a piece) I would have.

(and for opening night for a Pixar movie, it was quiet empty, I guess the novelty of the theater is starting to wane)

(07-05) 12:45 PDT -- A 78-year-old man was killed while taking a stroll on a pedestrian walkway at Crown Beach in Alameda in a hit-and-run incident Saturday morning, Alameda police officials said.

The police said Dionisio Molina, 36, of Alameda was driving a green Jeep Cherokee on the pedestrian walkway on the south side of the 2000 block of Shoreline Drive in Alameda. He hit the pedestrian just before 5:30 a.m. and continued eastbound on the walkway, striking several stop signs and light poles.

Molina was arrested several blocks away from the crime scene, in the 2400 block of Shoreline Drive, after a witness, who reported having to jump out of the way of the vehicle, called police to report reckless driving. Molina is being held on suspicion of felony hit and run and vehicular manslaughter.

The unidentified victim was declared dead at the scene.

Just got this notice from Jeff at Farmstead:

John has been working on this contemporary Italian eatery for what seems like forever, and his eclectic take on great food is sure to please. He stopped by the other day and let me sample some of his cooking. Mamma Mia, this ex-Oliveto chef can sure cook!!

I particularly loved his take on Asparagus wrapped in Prosciutto San Daniele (grilled), the Arancini (fried risotto balls stuffed with Fontina val d'Aosta), and Stracotta di Manzo (a fancy name for some killer pot roast of beef braised in Nebbiolo wine!!) His all-Italian wine list tops out at $40 or so.

He opens next weekend (Friday, 28 March), so run, don't walk to what will definitely be a destination for foodies, Bay Area-wide."

Normally I'm kinda "meh" about Italian restaurants, as I don't care for pasta that much. I'm not eating any carbs at all these days, so I've got to admit the description of the pot roast and asparagus has piqued my interest. And I can walk there!

thinking of moving to Alameda - a few ?s

Hi everyone. I'm thinking of moving to Alameda, from Berkeley. Have toured around the island a bit. Wondering, though, if it's colder or warmer there than Berkeley. (I tend to run cold, and like heat.) One of my friends told me it's often windy and cool. Hard to get a sense today, when it's warm and sunny everywhere.

Also just wondering if I'll get tired of all the driving (I work in SF - not downtown - and also spend a lot of time in Berkeley). But I suppose you all can't really answer that.

The place I'm looking at is on the west side of the island, off Webster.

Don't know what to do about this so I'll just say what's up:

today I recd an obscene rant from someone saying how much they hated me. This is the only group I really post opinion in so I have to assume it came from here, since I really don't post that much on tribe anymore.

basically it said "I think that you are the stupidest bitch on this site, and you post some really stupid shit, and you make me very angry. " What was creepy is that they copied two of my photos and created an new account [Tara Jeannine Delong], with a name similar to what I was using [Tara Umdze} enough so that, if they posted elsewhere, people might think it's me. I had to change my name and photos accordingly.

I contacted tribe to check it out since it borders on impersonation - a violation of tou. However, I just wanted to say to that person, you may not like my opinion, but at least I am not so cowardly as to hide behind brand new profiles to attack someone.

If anyone sees this person posting in a manner that they may be implying they are me, please send me a message. thanks for your help.

Anyone following the strange sorta-demise of the Central Cinema?
First they said that they couldn't get first run films due to the new theater opening, which I find really sad. But now it's that they only can't get "Family" films.
I'm not sure I understand why the distributors would be so specific?

Once an apartment manager finally says YES, I will be moving soon.

I have friends who are willing to help, but I figure that instead of worrying about their backs and their schedules and who can rent me a truck because I don't have a car and therefore no insurance and blahblahblah, it'd be easier (and not much more expensive, because I'll be obligated to feed my friends!) to just hire movers. Then I can see my friends at a nice housewarming party, where everyone is happy and calm instead of sweaty and under duress.

Has anyone moved within the island? How much stuff did you move, how much did it cost you, would you recommend the moving company you used?

CHP lurking near Webster tubes

Here's your PSA for the day:

There's been a motorcycle CHP hiding behind a bush in the mornings, radar aimed at those speeding out of the Webster tube from Oakland. It's really the perfect spot, as drivers can't see him and the 45 MPH speed limit in the tube is really just a guideline. :P

Also, there've been a couple of cars flanking the entrance to the Posey tube, later in the morning or early afternoon.

So watch that lead foot around those tubes!

What's up with the pedestrians just running out in the middle of the street?

Now I understand this town is really really conscious of pedestrians. When half your town is full of senior citizens who will fail dementia tests if they ever tried to get their driver's license again, of course those people aren't going to drive.
No I am not talking about those people.
I am talking about the other half of Alameda. The people who aren't about to die within the next 4 years. The obese mother of 4. The young Alameda High student who is wearing a "dirty blanket" jacket (I believe the youth call them "hoodies"). The guy in his mid-30's wearing a suit.
It doesn't matter who they are, you just jump out in the street.
Even the crosswalks are a funny deal in your town. The way I understood it, you look both ways and then cross. But your town, it's cross and pray to god that it isn't a senior citizen behind the wheel of that Chevette.
I am in your god forsaken dump everyday of the week and once a day, I will have to slam on my brakes because Mrs. Before (the woman in the Nutra System commercial BEFORE the diet) decided to jump into the street. She will even have the nerve to glare at me as if I did something wrong. No lady, it is you that is wrong. 1. You live in this stupid town called Alameda. 2. You're fat.
I had one incident over there near Washington Park where some guy flipped me off because I didn't stop for him at the crosswalk. Even though I was going slower than the posted speed limit of 25. Even though I was almost 5 feet away from the cross walk (too close for me to stop at the crosswalk). Even though had I stopped, I would have had to slam on my brakes since I was way too close to the crosswalk. No, he wanted me to stop and he flipped me off. Now any other city with alot less of the invincibility juice running through their blood wouldn't have cared because I was too close. But in your filthy town? Nope, he wanted me to stop.
I don't understand it either where this mentality comes from. Is it taught in your schools? Do Alameda parents shove this down their children's throats?
I'd actually like to see a statistic about pedestrian's getting hit by cars in your dump. Is it really cars driving above the speed limit or is it pedestrians thinking they're untouchable?
I'd really like to know what is up with the Alameda pedestrians...

Video Maniacs on Park Street - out of business

Looks like Video Maniacs just closed their doors on Park Street in the last few days.

I've not been there in over a month, otherwise I'd have seen the notice that they were shutting down. :(
The note on the window pretty much says the Park Street Business Association ran them out of business.

When I got home, a salesman for Alameda Power & Telecom came to my door to pitch cable sales. We ended up talking about Video Maniacs - the sales guy told me Video Maniacs is suing the city for forcing them out of their old location on Santa Clara Ave to make room for the parking garage. The guy said something about Video Maniacs had signed something that said they had two months to review how sales were going in the Park Street location.
He said that if business was good, then they couldn't sue if the business later failed, so they don't have a case.

Does anyone have any more info on this?

I can see why people don't like Alamedans

Alamedans aren't very friendly to not only outsiders but people with outside ideas. I mean, look at this board for instance. You guys have one guy who has an opinion that you may or may not like troll your board. Now every loudmouth member of this board wants to show who they know in your town (as if it's some sort of "friends" list on myspace and the bigger the list, the more "leet" you are).
Ok let me play your game then. You know who I love? I love the bluecollar family of 5 that was kicked out of their apartment because they were labeled "ghetto" (aka..black). I love my neighbor on Haight ave who had her husband beat on her and the quick responsive Alameda police never showed up (I should know, I called them more than 4 times. I guess if your house is on the West side, you just aren't taken seriously). I love the kids that go to Longfellow. You see, in the town I come from (where people genuinely care about each other instead of well...frontin like they do) the money given to the school district is divided evenly so that every school has equal facilities, books and caliber of teahcers but in YOUR town, it's all in where you live. I've seen the differences all over Alameda.

Oh and moderator, I know my opinion is different so I might suggest running rigorous test to weed out people who don't you know think the way most Alamedans think. You run your tests and people like me won't be able to post on such an elite board.

Now I know some of you's weren't very welcoming to Target being built at southshore. Fine, but replacing Mervyn's with Kohls?!?!?
That is like replacing crap with shit.
From my insider sources though, once a few other stores agree to build on, Target will join up with those stores and build on the base (you guys don't have to worry, it's not on your retard, elitist part of Alameda).
Here's the rule though. I say, all of you people who didn't want target there aren't allowed to use city streets to get there. You guys are going to clog up the traffic for people who genuinely want and NEED to go to Target.
Go to pagano's and buy your stupid flower patterened hammers and stfu.

Are any of you out there wishing that our fair little island had a more vibrant nightlife, especially for folks who love to dance?

Having Rhythmix (the new music and cultural arts center on Blanding) is a great boost to our options. Still there are very few actual nightclubs here. I figure that the police and city planners are probably discouraging and tough to deal with, as well as concerns that a new venue would have enough clientele to stay profitable.

When I look at the as-of-yet-unrented spaces available in the beautiful new "Towne Centre" I really get to wishing we could take advantage of one of the few convenient Alameda locations where a nightclub would be far enough away from the nearest residential buildings to make sound, foot traffic and parking less of an issue.

Do any of you share this dream? How could we go about creating momentum in this direction?

Where can I buy rosewater on the island?

I will be making Kheer (Indian rice pudding, with rosewater and pistachios) for an event at my daughter's school, and I am out of rosewater. I used to get it at Beverages & More at Jack London, but I didn't see it there my last two trips, and it's a pain to get there by public transit, anyway.

This needs to be food-grade rosewater--often times essential oils are not edible!

Does the Alameda Natural Grocery have it? Are there any shops specializing in the foods of certain cultures that have it.

I'd also love to get some orange flower water, if someone knows where on the island I can get it.

...ok, I include myself....I go to the new mini-gym. It's marketed to my exact demo (women 23-45, moms, kinda wussy but trying). So sue me.

But I have to vent for a second....

It's a *circuit* training gym. The whole idea is that you spend one minute on each machine, in a specific order, so that you can get out in 30 minutes.

If you hog a certain machine for 5 minutes, jump out of order with no regard to the rest of us or let your kids play on the machines it kinda fucks up our shit. Seriously, they walk you through the whole routine before you sign the membership deal. It's designed to be simple enough for a mouth-breather to figure out.

I picked this McDonald's-of-fitness approach precisely because I need it to be brainless and quick. You're ruining it for me.

Don't be an eejit. Follow the rules so we can get it over with. Stop wasting my time.

A 15-year-old girl was shot and killed at an Alameda park during an apparent robbery attempt, police said today.

The girl, an Alameda resident whose name was withheld, was shot at about 10:15 p.m. Wednesday at Washington Park, located on Central Ave near Webster Street in the island city.

She was with friends when she was shot in the playground area of the park, which is popular among sports enthusiasts and dog owners in the normally tranquil island city. No arrests have been made.

"I am personally stunned and professionally stunned," said Alameda police Lt. Art Fuentes. "I feel that it is a tragedy to lose the life of such a young lady and, as a parent, I couldn't fathom the loss and feelings that her family is going through."

The girl was with about 10 friends at the park when five or six male juveniles whom they didn't recognize approached them in a robbery attempt, Fuentes said.

One of the assailants was armed with a gun and fired five or six shots in an upward motion before firing one last shot that hit the girl in her back, Fuentes said.

"We believe she was in a defensive posture at the time of the shooting," Fuentes said.

One of her friends ran to a nearby officer issuing a traffic citation and told him about the shooting, which has devastated the girl's family and friends. "It's such a raw tragedy," Fuentes said.

The girl was taken to Highland Hospital in Oakland, where she was pronounced dead. The Alameda County coroner is scheduled to conduct an autopsy this morning.

Alameda police cordoned off the area and searched AC Transit bus stops and the 12th Street BART station in downtown Oakland in search of the assailants.

Washington Park is not known for such violence. It is popular for picnics, barbecues, baseball, basketball and its enclosed dog park and is within walking distance to the city's shoreline.

The slaying is Alameda's first homicide of the year. The city reported two killings in 2006, none in 2005 and one slaying in 2004.

An elderly couple caught with more than 200 marijuana plants at their Alameda home mounted the pot-growing operation because they needed cash, according to police. Paul Richard Martinetti, 73, and Suzanne Roberts, 68, were taken into custody on Thursday at their residence on Garfield Avenue.

The arrests follow police securing felony warrants that accuse the couple of cultivating marijuana and possessing marijuana for sale.

Along with the 230 plants, police allegedly found about three pounds of marijuana — packaged and ready to smoke — when they initially visited the property in August after someone reported a strong smell of marijuana in the area. Narcotics officers did not immediately arrest Martinetti and Roberts, however, because they said the case remained under investigation and that they hoped to develop leads that would point them to other marijuana-growing operations.

Inside a detached garage, which was behind the single-family residence, police also said they found a heating and watering system for the plants. The plants measured from a few inches to at least four feet tall. A narcotics officer who asked that his name not be disclosed described it as a "well-organized operation," but not very sophisticated. "He told me that he had run into financial difficulties and that they decided to begin growing marijuana as a way to make cash," the officer said about Martinetti. Along with the marijuana, police said
they seized about $9,000 in cash at the couple's home in the 3200 block of Garfield Avenue, plus a .22 caliber handgun.
Police said both Martinetti and Roberts were taken into custody without incident. Bail for the warrants was set at $20,000.
